# Passport API

The [Passport API](/api-reference/) lets you manage namespaces, resource groups, secret references, and endpoints programmatically, including mapping secrets to them, instead of using the Passport app. You can use the [Passport APIs Postman Collection](https://www.postman.com/usepassport/passport-public-workspace/collection/awclswa/passport-apis) to try the API requests. You'll need to [create an API key](/passport/reference/passport-api/authentication/#create-an-api-key) to authenticate your requests.

## Namespaces

The [Namespaces API](/api-reference/namespaces/list-namespaces) creates, lists, updates, and deletes [namespaces](/passport/get-started/basics/concepts/#namespace). Use it to manage the namespaces that group related APIs.

## Resource groups

The [Resource groups API](/api-reference/resource-groups/list-resource-groups) creates, lists, updates, and deletes resource groups within a namespace. A resource group organizes [resources](/passport/get-started/basics/concepts/#resource), which are endpoints that Passport Members can request access to.

## Secret references

The [Secret references API](/api-reference/secret-references/list-secret-references) creates, lists, updates, and deletes [secret references](/passport/get-started/basics/concepts/#secret-reference) within a namespace. A secret reference points to a secret in your [secret store](/passport/get-started/basics/concepts/#secret-store), so Passport Members never see the underlying credential.

## Endpoints

The [Endpoints API](/api-reference/endpoints/list-endpoints) creates, lists, updates, and deletes the individual API endpoints within a namespace. Each endpoint corresponds to a [resource](/passport/get-started/basics/concepts/#resource) that Passport manages access to, and the secrets you [map](/passport/set-up/add-resources/#step-4-map-secrets) to it determine which secret references it resolves at request time.

## Secret bindings

The [Secret bindings API](/api-reference/secret-bindings/list-secret-bindings) lists and replaces an endpoint's mapped secrets. This is the association between an endpoint and a secret reference — it's what you create when you [map a secret](/passport/set-up/add-resources/#step-4-map-secrets) to a resource in the Passport app.

## Access requests

The [Access requests API](/api-reference/access-requests/list-access-requests) creates, lists, gets, and cancels requests for access to a namespace's resource groups and endpoints. This is the same request a [Passport Member submits in the app](/passport/use/request-api-access/).
