# Install the Passport CLI

Install the [Passport CLI](/passport/reference/passport-cli/overview/) to connect your machine to the Passport Proxy and send authenticated API requests from the terminal.

## Install the Passport CLI

Use this path to install the Passport CLI on your own machine. IT teams that manage many machines should [deploy the Passport CLI with mobile device management](/passport/reference/passport-cli/deploy-with-mdm/) instead.

### macOS

Download the Passport CLI package:

```bash showLineNumbers={false} wordWrap
curl -fL -o ~/Downloads/passport.pkg "https://dl-passport.pstmn.io/download/version/0.6.0-canary-260921-212749/osx_$([ "$(uname -m)" = arm64 ] && echo arm64 || echo 64)?channel=canary"
```

Install the package:

```bash showLineNumbers={false}
sudo installer -pkg ~/Downloads/passport.pkg -target /
```

### Windows

Download the Passport CLI installer in PowerShell:

```powershell showLineNumbers={false} wordWrap
curl.exe -fL -o $env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\passport.msi "https://dl-passport.pstmn.io/download/version/0.6.0-canary-260921-212749/win_64?channel=canary"
```

Install it:

```powershell showLineNumbers={false}
msiexec /i $env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\passport.msi /quiet
```

## Verify the installation

Confirm the CLI installed correctly by checking the version:

```bash showLineNumbers={false}
passport --version
```

## Update the Passport CLI

To update the Passport CLI, run the install steps for your operating system again with the latest version. The installer overwrites your current installation in place, so installing a newer version replaces the older one without a separate uninstall.
